This past week as I was clearing trails and helping to prepare future food plots a thought crossed my mind. When we’re hunting, it’s important to be knowledgeable about the creature we are pursuing.
We need to know what type of food to plant; when to plant it, and even where. This goes beyond drawing deer in; it brings to light the importance of their nutrition as well. Ensuring that there are plants in the area that have multiple impacts on our Herd in a positive way. After we answer those types of questions, we can start to ask about how large is the herd? What time of day are the frequenting our spots? What type of role does the weather play in their patterns and behaviors? What predators are in the area? What direction are they traveling, and why? Do they travel different directions in the morning versus in the evening?
All of these detailed and specific questions require us to be 100% attentive and intent on studying these creatures and their habitats. The thought of being attentive and intent brought me to Jeremiah 29:13,
“You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.”
This verse caused me to raise a simple question; how dedicated, how passionate, how excited am I to study and seek out Jesus every day? More specifically; are we studying and seeking after God with the same passion, enthusiasm and determination as the deer we’re after? As hunters we prioritize accordingly; ensuring that we allow ourselves time to study camera footage, scrapes, trails, and bedding habits. We understand that with little effort comes little reward. We would not leave the success of our season to chance! So we study and prepare diligently; but often our eternal success is seen as something we can work on tomorrow.
Are we truly seeking out God with our whole hearts, or is our faith and relationship with Jesus Christ more just something we do after work; on the weekends, or just whenever we have time?
We should look forward to our next moment of prayer like we look forward to checking cameras. Our next Bible Study should be like walking into our hunt camp with our buddies. These things should excite us, challenge us, and teach us. You wouldn’t walk into hunting camp thinking, “Man, I really just wanted to be at home. I really didn’t even want to come this week.”
We need to allow the Love of God and his pursuit of a Created Moment with us every day to excite us and drive us toward knowing Him better.
Christ seeks us above all else, and has shown us the greatest sacrifice as He lay his life down, and rose again, so that we might know true freedom and forgiveness from our sins. This needs to be our first decision, to choose Christ’s love and forgiveness for us. When we make that decision to ask for forgiveness and follow Christ He promises in Isaiah 41:10 “So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.”
The Created Outdoors team is here for you if you have questions about who Jesus is or if you have prayer requests. Maybe you would just like to talk. Our team would love to hear from you and we are grateful for the chance we have had to spend some time with you.
Please remember that no matter where you are in your life, and regardless of anything that is or that was; Jesus Loves You! He always has, and always will.
God Bless You!
