For most of us whitetail season is merely weeks away! We’re scrambling to get the finishing touches on our plots and trails, not knowing just yet which area is going to produce our best chances. We’re studying trail cameras and tracks to determine where to place our stands or blinds. Are they traveling north or south, east or west? Are they scattered? Where is their main food source? Where is their water source?
These questions play large parts in where we place our sets. Their travel patterns combined with wind trends allow us to place ourselves successfully up wind so they don’t pick-up our scent. Cover and concealment also play a large role as we want to ensure we can see them, but they don’t see us. Making sure we aren’t blinded by the sun at dusk or dawn or that our line of sight allows us the best chance to watch them come in so we are not surprised.
We spend a lot of time getting to know our herd, in hopes of that Created moment. As Christians we need to ensure that we are looking for God the same way we look for our herd. It is important that we follow his lead, the way we follow trails and rubs.
It is when we let God teach us; when we wait for Him and allow him to show us where to go before we rush in that we can be most successful in our faith. It’s the same as what we do in scouting whitetails. Without allowing ourselves to be taught by our herd we would never have hopes of a successful hunt. If we lead our hearts without knowing first where God wants us to go it can very easy to become lost.
“Make me to know your ways, O Lord; teach me your paths. Lead me in your truth and teach me, for you are the God of my salvation; for you I wait all the day long.”
“Make me to know your ways, O Lord; teach me your paths”
It’s critical to understand what we are looking for when we scout, and plan our hunts. Following a beaten path without any life signs may be easier then following the scat and narrow tracks along the briers; but if we want to be successful we must choose the right direction to follow and not always the easy one. In the same way we must follow God’s lead in our lives. Even if it is not the easy path; when we choose God over ourselves and the things that the Devil uses to distract us we will always succeed in the end.
The Created Outdoors team is here for you if you have questions about who Jesus is; if you have prayer requests or if you would just like to talk. Our team would love to hear from you and we are grateful for the chance we have had to spend some time with you.
Please remember that no matter where you are in your life, and regardless of anything that is or that was; Jesus Loves You! He always has, and always will.
God Bless You!
