Signs in Creation
The summer is drawing to an end. County fair season is here, and hunting season is fast approaching. With each sunrise and sunset, a vast reminder of the perfect beauty in God’s creation. Hebrews 11:13 says “By faith we understand that the universe has been created by a word from God, so that the visible came into existence from the invisible.”
Hebrews 11:13 is a powerful passage, both as believers in Christ, and as outdoorsmen and women. While most people will see many sunrises and sunsets in their time on this earth. The vast majority will not fully experience the songs of life, smell of the fresh start or end of the day, and the drop in the temperature that accompany the God created sights.
The Created Outdoors staff thoroughly enjoy our time in the outdoors; however, it is the presence of Christ that we seek with every outing more so. While we all spend time scouting for the upcoming season, the knowledge of the game that we pursue and what sign they leave behind will help us decide where we will hunt. Here in Ohio deer archery season opens at the end of September. Patterning early season deer will be beneficial, as for the first few weeks of the season, the deer are still in a fairly consistent routine. We use the knowledge we have gained of the sign, such as scrapes, rubs, trails, tracks, and bedding to change our strategy throughout the season. Each trip into the deer stand, we tend to be observant of the sign left by the deer. We notice when their patterns and behaviors change. We need to have the same approach when it comes to our journey in life, and our relationship with Christ. Searching for the signs that God has provided us as we go down our path.
John 1:3 states, “All things were made by Him; and without Him was not any thing made that was made.” So, as we sit in the stand before daylight, and experience the blessing of the world around us awakening with the sunrise, we are experiencing all of the creation of God. With every plant swaying in the wind, deer passing, squirrel rustling, and bird chirping is the sign that God is there with us. The proof that He never leaves us. Take comfort in knowing that God stands with us through all of our seasons.
As you set out into the woods, field, or on the water, search for the signs from Christ in His creation. Be thankful for the blessing of all He has created, for without Him, there is nothing. Until next time, hunt hard, and pray harder.
