God, Love, and Forgiveness

Turkeys are gobbling, trees are budding, flowers are blooming, and spring is in the air. The hallmark signs that Easter is nearing. Even though, it seems that every store pushes the idea that Easter is nothing more than candy, colored eggs, and plush bunnies. But what exactly does Easter celebrate?

‍ ‍

While Jesus spent most of His adult life spreading the word of God, He seemed to know what the expected outcome would be to His story. As He gained a following, and named His disciples, scrutiny from the church and the Roman government began to get worse. He even spent some time as a fugitive.

‍ ‍

Jesus seemed to keep His faith throughout the good and bad. Always making it a priority to pray in private. Keeping His relationship with God close. As friends would come and go, or disciples would betray Him. Disciples like Simon who was a murderer, Judas was a thief, Peter was prideful and violent, Thomas doubted the resurrection. He still kept His faith. 2Timothy 2:13 says, “If we are faithless, He remains faithful, for He cannot disown Himself.”. As God’s only son, sent to earth to spread the word and lead by example. Jesus is the only one to live a truly sinless life, making Jesus the only one honestly deserving to enter heaven at God’s right hand.

Jesus faced many hardships in His life on earth. He was denied, scoffed, rejected, belittled, tortured, and crucified. There is no denying that the evil, and hardships in life make it a struggle to maintain your faith. Even Jesus suffered a weak moment while on the cross. Mathew 27:46 tells us that Jesus cried out “My God, My God, why have you forsaken Me?”. Jesus knew what needed to happen though, for this was the plan of God. God knows that in order to redeem all sin, the debt must be paid by the sinless. Jesus laid his life down for all of our sin. A love so deep, that He endured the pain, and sacrificed for us. A love so deep that He will forgive all of us for all of our sins. His faith did survive all of the turmoil. Luke 23:46 says “Jesus called out with a loud voice, “Father, into your hands I commit my spirit.”.

‍ ‍

So, back to the question of what exactly does Easter celebrate? Easter is a celebration of a God so loving, that He seeks redemption for all of us. A Father so loving that He is willing to forgive us for all of our sins. As we see in the disciples, He forgave some of the worst sins, even murder. God is so powerful, that Jesus was resurrected and reunited with God. Through God alone, eternal life is possible. Life with God in heaven. The short answer is that Easter celebrates God, His love, and His forgiveness. Until next time, hunt hard, and pray harder.
